چکیده

During high-temperature ball-on-disc tests of aluminium against steel, hot aluminium deformsand wear track evolves. The individual contributions of ploughing and shearing to theapparent friction and the contact pressure are unknown. The aim of this chapter was todevelop a model capable of determining these parameters. It was found that during high-temperature ball-on-disc tests, the ploughing friction accounted for only about 1% of theapparent friction, although the ploughing friction coefficient increased with increasing wearlap, while the shear friction played a dominant role in determining the apparent frictionmeasured. The mean contact pressure decreased significantly as the test proceeded. This chapter is reproduced from the article published in Tribology International, vol. 42,pp. 15-22, Jan 2009.

FINITE ELEMENT SIMULATION OF HEAT TRANSFER IN FRICTION STIR WELDING OF AL 7050

Friction welding is widely used in various industries. In friction welding, heat is generated by conversion of mechanical energy into thermal energy at the interface the work pieces during pin rotation under pressure. A three-dimensional thermo mechanical simulation of friction stir welding (FSW) processes is carried out for Aluminium Alloys of 6061and 7050 where the simulation results are comp...

The Investigation of Modelling Material Behavior in Autofrettaged Tubes Made from Aluminium Alloys

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE AR-SA The ratio of compression yield strength to the initial tensile yield strength is called Bauschinger effect factor, BEF. A nonlinear strain hardening mathematical model is proposed for 7075 aluminium alloy (A7075). Uniaxial tension-compression experimental data are used to figure out a suitable model to study the BEF. Hence, uniaxial tension-co...

Extrusion of 7075 aluminium alloy through double-pocket dies to manufacture a complex profile

Low-temperature incipient melting and high deformation resistance of aluminium alloy AA7075 place extraordinary demands on extrusion die design and process optimization, especially when the shape of the extrudate is complex. The present case study was aimed at combining the considerations on die design and process optimization for the alloy to manufacture a complex solid profile with large diff...

Influence of heat treatment on the microstructure and mechanical properties of 6005 and 6082 aluminium alloys

The main task of this work was to study the influence of the cooling conditions after homogenization of the 6082 aluminium alloys. The effect of the solution heat treatment temperature on the mechanism and ageing kinetics of the two commercial wrought aluminum alloys 6005 and 6082 was also analyzed. The alloys were heat treated—T4 with a wide range of solution heat treatment temperature from 51...

Method for Pocket Die Design on the Basis of Numerical Investigations of Aluminium Extrusion Process

A typical extrusion of low and medium strength aluminium alloys solid shapes is performed with flat pocket dies. The pocket allows realising the extrusion as “billet-to-billet” process, and also facilitates filling-up die channel deadlocks and thin-walled elements of profile [1]. In addition it serves as an instrument for shape geometry control. The scientific literature contains a variety of r...
